Nattokinase is a very specialized substrate specific fibrinolytic enzyme produced by fermentation of soybeans with Bacillus subtilsin natto. Other enzymes have fibrinolytic activity, but only true nattokinase has been demonstrated to be absorbed after oral ingestion as an active enzyme, and to have physiological efficacy. Caution: Although nattokinase is a safe whole food extract, caution should be used when using it with blood-thinning medications and/or high doses of supplements known to act as blood thinners such as vitamin E and Gingko biloba.
